Report: Google Home Mini Blaster was the best seller in the second quarter of 2018

Although Google entered the smartphones market behind Amazon, which was the only dominant player at the beginning, things are going well for the company. Google Home Mini became the best-selling smartphone in the second quarter of 2018.

According to the latest Strategy Analytics report, between April and June 2018, Google Home Mini accounted for 20% of total smartphone sales worldwide. This means that one in five smartphones sold during the second quarter was Google Home Mini, with 2.3 million devices in just three months.

As for the standard version of the Google Home device, it accounted for only 7% of sales in the second quarter of 2018, selling about 800,000 units. Thus, Google devices together accounted for 27% of the market.

For comparison, the Echo device from Amazon made up 12% by 1.4 million units, while its younger brother Echo Dot accounted for 18% by 2.2 million units. Amazon still controls the market by 30%, surpassing Google by only 3%.

Google's support for Google Home and its Google Smart Assistant is believed to help it outperform Amazon and dominate the market, as with Android, which dominates the smartphone market by up to 88%.
